Workout… How often do you say that word to yourself and then store it away at the back of your head?! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are 6 simple tips for helping you turn those thoughts into a real workout lifestyle.
Whether you’re looking for workout tips at home or workout tips for beginners, this post is all about making exercise a habit, not a one off.
You’re probably really busy, right? You have a tonne of responsibilties and your time is stretched. How do you do it all and find time to move your body?
The good news is that there’s small and simple ways to get exercise into your schedule.
This post is all about 6 Awesome Tips For Turning One Workout Into A Habit
1. Make your workout appealing
Make exercise fun!
If you don’t love running, then why are you trying to make yourself run five miles?! Gross!!
You’ll never be motivated to exercise if you schedule workouts you hate.
Whether you love doing dance classes, lifting weights on a workout bench, or want to stay at home and do workout videos, it’s totally up to you.
Pick something that appeals to you and try it!
2. Eat before exercising and bring fluids
Is there anything worse than being half way through a run and suddenly realizing you’re insanely hungry?!
Of course, some people really like working out on an empty stomach, so let them do them lol.
But on the whole, most people need something in their system to exercise successfully. So do yourself a favor and feed yourself before you use a bunch of energy – or a little!
P.S. Water on hand (always and forever) is the best exercise pal. <3
3. Schedule your workouts, but be flexible
It’s awesome if you’re able to create a workout plan at the beginning of the week.
Generally it helps you get everything else done more efficiently if you know you have to make it to that yoga class, or meet up with that running buddy.
But life happens. It’s okay if you have to cancel last minute or swap around your exercise classes from time to time.
At the end of the day, doing a little is better than nothing. Especially for your mental health.
4. Invest in workout clothes
It might sound silly, but taking time to get workout outfits that you love can make you more motivated to exercise.
For the longest time, I was stubborn about buying new running clothes. It felt stupid to spend money on clothes that would get drenched in sweat.
But in reality, your workout routine is way more fun when you know you’re going to wear clothes that fit you properly and, yeah, look stylish!
5. Get an accountability buddy
If you’re really committing to a workout lifestyle, I highly recommend getting an accountability buddy. In my opinion, it’s a game changer.
All you need is someone to workout with and it doesn’t have to be every day, or for super rigorous exercise. Just ask a friend to take a walk with you once a week!
Personally, I use the Future app which sets me up with a virtual personal trainer. It’s been a great way to get my exercise in and I love having someone hold me accountable.
If you’d like a referral to Future so you can get a discount for the first month, you can message me here <3
6. Set an exercise goal, not a “body goal”
In my opinion, a workout plan should never include a goal weight.
There’s way too much research that shows if you only workout with the intention of losing weight, you don’t keep that weight off in the long term.
Instead, why not make a workout schedule because you want to feel healthier overall?
With regular exercise comes more energy, the ability to cope with stress, new skills, new friends, and fun!
