Cream cheese frosting is irresistible. Whether you’re using it to top off cinnamon rolls, carrot cake, sugar cookies, or red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting is mouth watering and makes any baked good a thousand times more tasty.
We’ve tried and tested multiple frosting recipes. But this one – that we curated ourselves – is out of the world perfection.
This recipe is also the definition of a super easy – and affordable – icing recipe.

Tips and Tricks
- If you want to experiment with the flavor, try adding a pinch of salt
- If you (like us!) have a super sweet tooth, try adding a tsp of vanilla essence
- You can freeze this recipe for up to a month or in the fridge for up to three days
- You don’t need to make cream cheese frosting only as a topping for baked goods; try putting it in mini mason jars to serve as a sweet snack or dessert
- Depending on how soft your cream cheese and butter is before you make the frosting, you may have to put the freshly made frosting in the fridge for a bit to harden it up a little before using it to decorate baked goods. (Let your baked goods cool for at least 30 minutes before applying the frosting.)
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING Ingredients
- 8 ounces of Philadelphia cream cheese (other brands also work but the Philadelphia brand is particularly delicious!)
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups of powdered sugar
- 1 tsp of vanilla essence (optional)
Directions
- Combine all the ingredients (preferably with an electric whisk unless you have freakishly strong arms)
- When your baked goods have cooled, top them with your frosting in any manner you like! Alternatively, eat straight out the bowl. We are not judging (see below)!
CUTE Serving ideas
