As I’ve said elsewhere in my blog, the internet is overloaded with tips about “a morning routine for success.” Instead, The Wee Wellness Blog tries to make this stuff as simple as possible for you.
When I was doing research for this post, I kept wondering how to structure it. Depending on what we do for a living, how old we are, how many kids we have and a plethora of other factors, a morning routine for success looks different for everyone.
As a result, I’ve divided this post into categories which will help you figure out your unique morning routine for success.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, an artist, a parent or in school, this post is designed to help you face the day with the tools you need for success.
This post is all about a morning routine for success: 8 simple strategies
1. Morning routine for school
As someone now in their third year of a PhD program (eeeeek), I can tell you what to do (and what not to do!) to set yourself up for a successful day of studying.
In my opinion, a morning routine for successful students should include the following:
- Some kind of exercise including stretches. You probably spend a lot of time at a desk or in a lab, so move your body as much as possible.
- Accept that you will not read as many pages as you intend to read
- Pack something that allows you to take notes easily. Lots of people have the notes app ready on their phone, but I recommend good old pen and paper too.
You can check out my morning routine for more tips.
2. Morning routine for self improvement
I can’t think of a more successful morning routine than one that includes time for self improvement.
I highly recommend journalling with a pen and paper to tap into what you want to improve on relation to yourself, your relationships, community and work life.
When you write, you engage with ideas in an intimate way that forces you to face them head on!
3. Morning routine for successful women
I’m going to say one thing and one thing only for #3.
If you want to establish a morning routine to become a successful woman, stop.
You’re a success by just dealing with periods, pregnancy, childbirth, constant hormone fluctuations, covering up grey hair and removing all other types of hair – congratulations!
If you can get through the day dealing with all of the above, please pour yourself a glass of wine now.
4. Morning routine for spiritual growth
As someone who has recently made more room for spiritual practice in my life, here are some of my own tips for finding morning time success regarding spiritual development:
- Own your commitment to spiritual growth. Whatever faith you follow, whatever belief system you devote time to, own it. There’s no reason to feel ashamed for dedicating time to this part of yourself.
- Find others to share spiritual growth with, and use your morning routine as a starting point. I recommend finding others that share your beliefs so you can share and question them together.
- Keep asking questions about your spiritual journey or belief system. Unchanging stances – on anything – is never a wise idea.
5. Successful morning routine for an entrepreneur
Asides from all the usual things most of need to do in the morning, here’s a few interesting tips for entrepreneurs that I gathered for you:
- Jump online once you’re out of bed. Personally, this gives me anxiety, but my partner does this and he seems to thrive! Plus, I’d say he’s pretty darn successful, but I’m biased 😉
- Read. Read. Read.
- Read some more.
6. 5:00am morning routine
From personal experience, I found a 5:00am morning routine hard to maintain. In fact I only do it periodically when I have an insanely large workload.
So here’s what I’d recommend if you want a 5:00am start to set you up for success:
- Accept that you’ll reach for the snooze button, so have your phone far enough away from your bed that you have to get out of bed to switch it off
- Make a very specific list for a 5:00am morning routine the night before. Otherwise you’ll limp to the couch and fall asleep again.
- If you have a partner who isn’t getting up at 5:00am too, try to be as mindful as possible about letting them sleep <3
7. 4:30am morning routine
Unless you have a baby that won’t sleep or you work incredibly early shifts, please go back to bed!!!
8. Billionaire morning routine
Ah, the billionaire morning routine! You gotta love the blog posts on this one. They are equal parts fascinating, inspiring and terrifying.
After reading a billion (appropriate word choice, right) posts on this topic, here’s what billionaires seem to do in the morning:
- Wake up early (after getting a good night of sleep)
- Meditate
- Drink a glass of water
- Exercise
- Read a book
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Implement a plan for the day that they made the night before
- Plan the day ahead in more detail
- Be a person with routines in all parts of their life
