Don’t worry, these are not fancy sugar cookies… these are your simple box kind with a couple of additions that you can buy at your local grocery store for cheap.
Sugar cookie ingredients are pretty standard. You can find a lot of easy recipes online. Buy why not take advantage of a cookie box mix when you’re short on time and make it your own with two or three extra ingredients?
I’ve put together these 3 ingredient sugar cookies because, like you, I’m busy. But I also want to make time for baking because I want to enjoy my life to the fullest.
So, let’s get into this easy sugar cookie recipe and enjoy our love for baking together!

Tips and Tricks
- Buy a big brand sugar cookie mix. I personally used Betty Crocker for this recipe, but you can use any cookie mix brand.
- Let your butter soften for at least at 1 hour. You can technically microwave butter to get it nice and soft for mixing, but it’s better to let it warm naturally at room temperature for at least 1 hour before you start baking.
- Always use butter rather than oil.
- Use any add ins you like! I added M&Ms to this sugar cookie mix, but you can substitute the M&Ms for anything: chocolate chips, almonds, pecans, sprinkles… go wild! Plus, you can always include more than one “add in!”
- You don’t have to own an expensive, or inexpensive, hand mixer to combine your ingredients. You can use your hands! My mum taught me how to bake and we used our hands all the time to combine ingredients.
- Chuck in some vanilla extract! Eyeball the amount. I prefer extract to essence because it’s normally natural, rather than a synthetic mixture made to taste like vanilla.
- Undercook your cookies a little. That’s what makes them taste homemade!
- Top your cookies with one of my frostings! I love cream cheese frosting or Nutella frosting.
Ingredients
- 1x sugar cookie mix
- 1 cup of M&Ms
- 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla extract or essence (eyeball the amount depending on how sweet you like your cookies)
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
Directions
- Heat your oven to 350F.
- Combine all your yummy ingredients. (With the butter, cut it up into chunks and be sure to mix it evenly to avoid certain parts of the cookie dough getting soggy!)
- Depending on how big you want your cookies, roll as many cookie dough balls as you like and place them on an oven pan lined with parchment paper. I personally like to make my cookies on the bigger side, so I leave LOTS of room between the dough.
- Bake your cookies till they are light brown at the edge. I like to check mine every 3-4 minutes and then I give them at least one more minute when I think they’re almost ready.
- Cool cookies on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before gobbling.
